Team Seminars

Intended Audiences:

District and school leadership teams or coaching and Title One teams

Service Overview:

TEP’s seminars are designed around the train-the-trainer model.  Most of these seminars involve 8 days of professional development workshops given throughout the year along with a mutually agreed-upon number of days of onsite and team coaching during the implementation and evaluation process.  Because these seminars are meant to meet your specific needs, the number of days of service and the focus of each day’s service may differ from the subsequent model, but in general, our seminars  follow this format:

Ø     Day One and Two: Putting the Systems in Place to Create an Effective Team

Ø     Day Three: Defining the Project

Ø     Day Four: Specific In-services Designed to Meet the Team’s Needs

Ø     Day Five: Midyear Program Review

Ø     Day Six: Specific In-services Designed to Meet the Team’s Needs

Ø     Day Seven: Annual Program Review

Ø   Day Eight: Strategic Planning for Next Year

In between the eight days of in-services, TEP coaches will be working with your team members both collectively and individually to help insure a smooth implementation and execution of your program.

In addition, TEP includes administrative or principal coaching and/or consulting around this goal.  Our administrative coaches will work with your district and building administrators to help them envision what a successful implementation process should look like at both the district and building levels and help your administrative team to put the systems in place to make successful implementation a reality.

Because research shows that it takes at least five years for a system to become institutionalized, TEP offers multi-year professional development packages based upon each of our professional development models on this page.  We feel this is the best possible approach for both of us.  Therefore, we provide additional services at no additional cost if you select this option. Faculty Meeting Job-Embedded Professional Development

Intended Audiences:

Full staffs, PLCs, grade level and/or content area teams, district administrative teams.

Service Overview:

Research tells us that the most effective professional development is ongoing, job-embedded professional development that focuses on developing professional learning communities which in turn focus their collective efforts on insuring that each and every student in the school is learning.  Furthermore, research tells us that one way to help this happen is to make more productive use of staff meetings.  In keeping with these findings, the TEP team has developed a series of workshops that is built around onsite PLC coaching. These workshops are designed to provide ongoing job-embedded professional development around your district or school’s specific goals. This package includes:

Ø     Monthly or twice monthly full-staff in-services on the district or school’s goals. These in-services are designed to be delivered during staff meetings or district administrative meetings.

Ø     Two to four days of onsite coaching around the goal a month. While it is impossible to list in advance all the things the coaching sessions may cover, here are a few areas that are recommended:

o      Modeling, coaching, classroom observation, and consulting on the selected goal.

o      Coaching the teams as they put the systems into place to ensure that they are functioning as a highly effective PLC.

o      Facilitating ongoing inquiry-based data-driven decision making around the goal and utilizing the results to monitor and modify the implementation process.

o      Facilitating the development and analysis of common formative and summative assessments that are designed to inform instruction around the goal.

o      Facilitating study groups, action research, peer coaching, and peer walkthroughs around the goal.

o      Facilitating ongoing self-evaluation and team reflection during the whole process.

In addition, TEP includes two to four days of administrative or principal coaching around this goal.  Our administrative coaches will work with your district and building administrators to help them envision what a successful implementation process should look like at both the district and building levels and help your administrative team to put the systems in place to make successful implementation a reality.

Because research shows that it takes at least five years for a system to become institutionalized, TEP offers multi-year professional development packages based upon each of our professional development models.  We feel this is the best possible approach for both of us.  Therefore, we provide additional services at no additional cost if you select this option. Research “emphasizes that coaching is a prerequisite for the implementation of new skills or strategies” (Showers, Joyce, & Bennett, 1987 in DuFour & Berkey 1995). This means that “providing teachers with ongoing support after the initial training is critical to the success of any innovation” (DuFour & Berkey 1995). Therefore the TEP team offers a variety of professional coaching options around your goal that are designed to help ensure your success in increasing student achievement in your district or school. These include:

Program Monitoring and Evaluation

Intended Audiences:

District and building administrators, leadership and school improvement teams, in-house coaching teams, Title One and special education teams, and PLCs.

Service Overview:

With the federal and state focus on all students making AYP, none of us in education can afford to wait until the end of the year to evaluate the success of the school improvement/student achievement goals we have put in place in our districts or schools. We need our goals to be written as SMART Goals with specific, multiple, ongoing ways to measure and monitor their success in increasing student achievement, but even more than that, the results need to used immediately to impact student learning.

TEP understands this need and can help you implement effective ways to monitor and evaluate the learning systems you are putting in place in your district or building.  To do this, our team utilizes the inquiry-based data-driven decision making process, which is an ongoing process that results in the formation of new SMART Goals and Action Steps based the ongoing evaluation.  As part the process, we recommend the use of administrative and peer classroom observations and walkthroughs, student work sampling, and student/staff/community survey data. In addition, we recommend the use and/or formation of  PLCs in your building to help ensure that this process is focused upon producing the continued results you need.  For as Mike Schmoker points out, "There is a marked difference between vague, well-intentioned improvement efforts and carefully targeted, goal-oriented, short-term efforts aimed explicitly at getting measurable, substantive results quickly” (qtd. in Sparks Winter 2000).  Creating highly effective PLCs and using them to help monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies they implement can have amazing results on student achievement.

Research shows that it takes at least five years for a system to become institutionalized. Therefore, TEP offers multi-year professional development packages based upon each of our professional development models.  We feel this is the best possible approach for both of us.  Therefore, we provide additional services at no additional cost if you select this option. To learn more about this and other offerings please
